Traditional vs. Online Schooling
Traditional vs. Online Schooling
In this day and age, the Internet and the online world are dominant in people’s lives. However, should online schooling be dominant in the educational environment as well? Personally, my answer would be, no.
Strictly schooling online deprives students of valuable skills such as communication and people skills. Though these skills may seem unimportant, they are essential for the working world as students enter the work force after school. In a strict online schooling environment, students are secluded and work mainly on their own, whereas in a traditional schooling, students often work in groups and are constantly involved with people of all ages. These people include peers and those of authority as well as people of a wide age range. Having to interact with people often strengthens those people skills that are necessary in the work force.
Traditional schooling has its weaknesses too though. In a traditional schooling environment, students may not get the personal attention needed to accommodate each student’s personality and way of learning due to the fact that many schools have numerous students and a high teacher to student ratio. With that said, traditional schooling encourages students to do well by creating competition. In an online schooling environment, because students are often isolated, there is no opportunity for competition for grades that there is in a traditional school environment.
Overall, Traditional schooling is more beneficial for students because of the skills they learn and the drive for results that is acquired as well. By having these valuable skills, students will be, and have been, better prepared for the working world and moving forward with their professional careers.
Let me know what you guys think!
